About

Welcome to ‘Fanny Lu Designs’, a new home for tutorials, pretty pictures, and the stories behind all of my stitching projects. I will be adding to the site over the next few months, so stay tuned!

Here’s a little about me…

I’m a high school math teacher turned stay-at-home mom with a love of all kinds of stitching. ‘Fanny Lu Designs’ is an attempt to bring all of my passions together: the mathematics of designing and planning, the fun of stitching, and the joy of teaching.

I’m inspired by classic designs with modern updates. I love to combine the best of both traditional and modern techniques into fun projects that will be treasured for years to come.

Crochet Quilt

Beginning when I was about 6 years old, my Grandma Ruby taught me crochet and embroidery. Then as a teenager, I learned to press, pin, cut, and read a sewing pattern with my mom. (It was quite a few years later that I finally learned to run a sewing machine myself.) After college, I took a class from the West Seattle Fabric Company and fell in love with fabric and quilting.

In 2012-13, I was privileged to work for the West Seattle Fabric Company at their Stitch & Sew Studio, teaching sewing and quilting, and hosting open sewing time. At the studio I met many wonderful ladies who inspired me with their stories and their creativity. They told me about how they learned to sew or quilt, and was honored to be a part of that story for those just beginning to learn. These ladies taught me so much about fabric, quilting, and life, and I hope to share some of their wisdom (and learn from yours) on this new blog.
